Carlos Gardel
June 24, 2010 marked the 75th anniversary of the death of Carlos Gardel, an Argentinian film star and one of the most compelling singers I have heard. Like two other favorites of mine, Bessie Smith and Edith Piaf, Gardel sang from the heart. I never understood the words to his songs, I didn't have to.
